"Because water has a memory, we are very worried about how we store it. If you keep the water in a copper container, preferably overnight or at least for four hours, the water acquires a certain quality of copper that is very good for your liver and especially for your health and energy". Indian yogi teacher Sadhguru.
Benefits: Since ancient times, Ayurveda has advocated the benefits of drinking copper water. As per Ayurveda, when you store water in a copper vessel for a span of 6-8 hours (best stored overnight), the water becomes naturally alkaline. This happens because the copper vessel positively charges the water and energizes it, making the water ‘live’ again. It also leaves it tasting silky smooth. The charged copper water helps bring balance to the Tridosha (Vata, Kapha and Pitta) of the body. In Ayurveda, this transformed, therapeutic water taken from copper vessels is called ‘Tamra Jal’.
Cleaning Tips: Put a table spoon of citric acid powder or descaler powder in your copper bottle or glass. Pour hot water until the neck and allow the mixture rest for a few minutes (2 – 5 minutes). Once you notice that the patina and dark spots have disappeared and your bottle shines as new from within, you can rinse off the bottle or glass and wash once again with luke warm water. Your copper bottle or glass is good as new!
Alternatively, squeeze half a lemon (or ¼ cup of naturally fermented vinegar) and a tablespoon of salt into the bottle and add 1-2 cups of warm water. Shake the bottle and pour the liquid out.
Sometimes a copper build-up occurs around the lid of the bottle. Use the squeezed lemon to wipe inside the neck/tread of the bottle and then rinse off with clean water. .
Please remember: If you are using vinegar or lemon, do not store the mixture for a long time. Both vinegar and lemon could react very strongly with copper. Citric acid powder is mild and thus always a safe bet for cleaning your copper bottles and glasses!
